Rebecca Warr finally gets to launch her first solo art exhibition at St Arnaud

It was just a few days out from Rebecca Warr’s first solo exhibition in August when the State Government decided to close down public galleries across Victoria due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Like many small business owners she had to pivot her marketing plan quickly.

“Whilst it was disappointing, it presented an opportunity for me and other artists to drive our marketing through social media networks such as Facebook and Instagram and explore the many opportunities that are offered through online art galleries,” Rebecca explains.

During lockdown, Rebecca's art sales increased from a surge in people renovating or refreshing areas of their homes. Rebecca’s canvases were regularly featured as the ‘pick of the day’ by art warehouse designers and this helped to propel her sales even further in the interior design market. She has also since launched a range of designer shoes featuring her designs.

Rebecca now returns to the Wimmera region to launch her spectacularly colourful “Plethora”, at the St Arnaud Railway Station Raillery Hub Gallery on Saturday, 28 November at 2pm.

“Nothing quite replaces the connections made from exhibiting in physical galleries,” says Rebecca.

“Beyond the marketing advantages, interacting with people, providing an escape and inspiration for others is what it’s all about.”

Rebecca’s inspiration stems from her creative need. It is this spontaneity, reflected in her layered abstract patterning, that has quickly elevated this remarkably intuitive artist to be among Australia’s most sought-after wall art creators on the professional design and decorator scene.  One work titled “Rainbows End” has just featured on the professional decorator design website artloversaustralia.com.au.Another, “Violet Haze” from her “Colour Quake Series” was central to a room make-over on Network Ten’s Healthy Homes Australia program.

Her new series on canvas gives the illusion of entanglement with a combination of stencilling in acrylics and Posca pens using a striking, varied palette.

The exhibition will also feature a reading room for young children with walls dressed in framed original illustrations from Rebecca’s first written and illustrated children’s picture book titled “With One Eye Open”, published by Austin Macauley Publishers.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the story walking through it without any need to contact surfaces.

Rebecca was raised and educated in Ballarat, completing a Bachelor of Arts (Visual) at the University of Ballarat. She then spent a large part of her early career teaching art at Donald High School in the Wimmera. She continues to mentor emerging artists in rural areas to help promote creative careers.

“Teaching young people art has given me the opportunity to also experiment with techniques and materials alongside them,” she explains.

“I will be pleased to talk to any local artists about ways they can pivot their own businesses, and share some of the experiences I have had.”

At Raillery Gallery, we will be practising social distancing, masks are mandatory and hand sanitiser will be available. We will supply a QR code for you to scan on your phone or can collect this information on paper, if you prefer, to log visitor contact details . We appreciate your cooperation.
