Fire Prevention Contractor - EOI

Expressions of Interest are invited from suitable contractor/s to be considered for the position of NGSC Fire Prevention Contractor.  

Contractor/s capable of performing tasks for fire hazard clearance and fuel mitigation works on private property under Fire Prevention Notices for the duration of council’s 2024-25 fire hazard inspections period are encouraged to apply. Tasks may include mowing, slashing, vegetation removal, and garden maintenance. The works will be at various locations throughout the Northern Grampians Shire and will be available from late November/December 2024.

Process and requirements

Council issues Fire Prevention Notices starting around November each year, and arranges compulsory contractor works on non-compliant properties. For more information on council's fire hazard inspections process please go to our Fire page.

  1. Council may appoint one or more contractors for the whole fire hazard inspections season. 
  2. The Municipal Fire Prevention Officer will assign jobs to the contractor using Crisisworks (mobile app). 
  3. Assigned jobs are required to be completed within seven business days. 
  4. Before and after photos are required for each job (to be uploaded into Crisisworks). 
  5. Any notes regarding each job should be included in Crisisworks. 
  6. Contractor must notify the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer as soon as the work has been completed. 
  7. Contractor invoices must be submitted to the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer and Accounts Payable within seven business days of the work being undertaken. 

Expectations
  • Any communications with property owners / residents must be referred to the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer. 
  • Contractors must not provide advice to property owners / residents or make any decisions related to Fire Prevention Notices, including works required, extensions, etc.  
  • All questions and complaints must be referred to the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer. 
  • Contractors are not expected to enter a property if they feel unsafe or are refused access. 
  • If the contractor is refused entry to a property, the Municipal Fire Prevention Officer must be contacted immediately. 

Successful appointment of a contractor to the position of NGSC Fire Prevention Contractor does not guarantee any quantity, extent, or continuity of work for any contractor. More than one contractor may be appointed to the position of NGSC Fire Prevention Contractor.
