History
Marnoo is a small, quiet town situated a 45-minute drive from Halls Gap, half an hour to Stawell, Donald, St. Arnaud and Murtoa, and an hour from Horsham in the Northern Grampians Shire. Marnoo is in the heart of Merino country and is the birth place of champion trotter Maori’s Idol. In 1975 Marnoo celebrated 100 years of settlement making the town over 130 years old.
Marnoo locals love their town and take pride in the history of the area; they were the 2008 winner of the Tidy Towns Award in the Zero Waste category.
Newcomers to the town are made to feel welcome and can become involved with any of the local clubs and committees including the Wallaloo Golf Club.
Things to do and see
Marnoo has many reasons to visit – why not relax and enjoy a meal at the Marnoo Café and B&B where you might even stay the night or get lost in the antiques at Emmandee Treasures or take a stroll around historical Marnoo and learn a little about the town and region in our Information Shed. Have a cold beer at the Marnoo Hotel or grab a pie or sausage roll on the run at the Marnoo Milk Bar.
There are great activities to discover in Marnoo and by appointment you could indulge in beauty treatments at Puro Cera or go Quail Shooting during March-June, take a farm tour or visit Manna-Gum Alpaca Farm on one of its open days in May, and during October Marnoo hosts Ram Sales.
