New lighting outside the Stawell Leisure Complex is helping patrons stay safe after finishing evening competitions.

Northern Grampians Shire Council installed the LED lights in the facility’s car park late last year in response to feedback from users.

Cr Karen Hyslop said the project had improved the safety and security of the site.

“There are many sports and programs at the Leisure Complex that don’t finish until late at night and we had several people express their concerns about making their way to their cars in the dark,” she said.

“Solar lighting was the ideal solution as there are no ongoing power costs to run them and the maintenance on the LED lights will be minimal.

The installation costs were also less than installing a fixed power supply as no underground power boring was required.

“These lights keep the car park bright all night, so early morning users of the facility also benefit.”
