A free pool party and fireworks will headline Australia Day celebrations in Stawell next week.

The entire family can look forward to a day full of activities hosted by the Northern Grampians Shire Council in partnership with its Youth Action Council.

Northern Grampians Shire Mayor Cr Tony Driscoll said crowds at Council’s Australia Day events had been steadily increasing over the past three years.

“Our Youth Action Council has worked hard to put its own spin on the celebrations and has added some extra activities for the young people of our shire,” he said.

“We have been delighted by the number of people who have attended both the afternoon and evening activities over the past few years and we are looking forward to seeing big crowds again in 2017.”

Australia Day celebrations will begin with a free pool party at the Stawell Leisure Complex between 2pm until 5.30pm on Thursday.

Triple J’s hottest 100 music will play throughout the afternoon, which will also feature games, waterslides and merchandise.

The pool party will be followed by the official Australia Day ceremony at Cato Park from 6.30pm. During the evening there will be a free barbecue, face painting, jumping castle, native animal petting zoo, citizenship ceremonies and the presentation of Australia Day awards.

The evening will conclude with live music, and a fireworks display on dusk.
