Overall health and fitness the focus

A raft of upgrades to the health and fitness facilities are set to assist in delivering a new focus on overall health at the Stawell Leisure Complex.
With Northern Grampians Shire Council set to take over operations of the SLC’s health and fitness centre in the coming weeks, brand new world-class strength and cardio equipment is set to be added to the SLC’s health and fitness space, along with the development of a dedicated group fitness space.
Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Cr Tony Driscoll said the improvements would deliver a facility, the likes of which has never been seen in Stawell.
“By purchasing and putting this world-class equipment in place, we are offering residents access to a truly exciting facility, as well as minimising the risks associated with operating a health club,” Cr Driscoll said.
“By establishing a dedicated group fitness space, we’re ensuring that group classes can function in a comfortable and safe environment, while allowing individual health club users to make use of our new equipment at the same time.”
Delivering a focus on overall health, rather than simply fitness, will also form part of the SLC’s new operational strategy - an objective which Cr Driscoll says will deliver dividends for the entire community.
“We know that by assisting to improve residents’ health and fitness, we’re helping to improve people’s feeling of wellbeing and the livability of our Shire,” he said.
Council will also hold an information session for all existing Stawell YMCA members at the SLC on Wednesday, January 17 from 6.30pm in order to provide a full update on the transition phase.
