Embracing the future and making the shift towards technology has earned Northern Grampians Shire Council recognition as a leader in local government.

Council’s Going Google program, which has seen Council’s workforce embrace Google’s web-based GSuite in order to deliver mobile working solutions, was recognised as an industry-leading initiative at last week’s LGPro Victoria Awards night, taking out the Innovation Management Award.

Northern Grampians Shire Council CEO Michael Bailey said the award was testament to staff’s dedication and enthusiasm in adapting to the major change in work environments, leading to huge efficiency and productivity gains, along with cost benefits, disaster recovery improvements, video conferencing, real-time collaboration and simple website building functionality.

“This project has allowed us to increase our productivity by allowing staff to better collaborate and provide more flexible working solutions,” Mr Bailey said.

“Using the Google package, our staff can basically work anywhere, at any time from any device, meaning that they can deliver quality customer solutions far more effectively than they could via traditional desktop systems.

“Our systems will continue to improve over time thanks to Google’s commitment to business development, ensuring that Northern Grampians Shire Council will remain at the forefront among Victorian councils when it comes to technology.”
