User groups will play a vital role in shaping the future of Stawell’s North Park, with a significant facilities upgrade set to be delivered thanks to a $100,000 Victorian Government grant.

Northern Grampians Shire Council has already begun the consultation process alongside a range of North Park user groups and organisations, with a brand-new amenities block funded by the State Government’s Community Sport Infrastructure Fund set to deliver more female-friendly facilities.

Preliminary plans for the upgraded amenities block show an increased number of public toilets, along with dedicated changing rooms for female teams and changing rooms for umpires and other officials.

Northern Grampians Shire Council’s representative on the Stawell Recreation Advisory Group, Cr Murray Emerson, said community consultation would form a central part of the planning and construction process.

“At the end of the day, these are the people who use these facilities on a regular basis, and have a strong understanding of what is required in order to provide the best possible outcome for the community,” Cr Emerson said.

“You only have to look at the success of competitions such as the AFLW or the Women’s Ashes to see participation numbers in female sport are going to expand well into the future, and the Northern Grampians Shire Council is proud to be a part of that expansion and encourage females from all walks of life to take part in any sport.”

The consultation process is set to continue for a number of weeks before initial construction works commence.
