Blue Green Algae confirmed in Walkers Lake

Water testing has confirmed the presence of Blue Green Algae in Walkers Lake near St Arnaud.
Mayor Cr Tony Driscoll said the lake was currently a health risk and must be avoided.
“We understand this is disappointing for the many frequent users of Walkers Lake, as well as tourists visiting the area at this popular time of year,” Cr Driscoll said.
“Health and safety must be our number one priority and for that reason, the lake will be closed until we can confirm that it is safe for use.
“During this time, people must not come into contact with the water. This includes swimming, drinking, boating, and fishing. People are also advised to keep their pets away from the lake.”
Council has erected signage at the lake and will undertake another water test in three weeks’ time in line with expert advice.
