Halls Gap Clean Up Weekend (09-Oct-2009)

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Kevin Erwin is encouraging Halls Gap residents to clean up their properties in preparation for the fire season on October 17th and 18th.

Residents will be entitled to free disposal of green waste at the Halls Gap transfer station on the Sunday in an effort to clear potential fire risks.

Mayor Erwin said residents would also be able to burn off without a permit on this day.

“People will be able to carry out burn offs on Sunday 18th without the need for a permit but we do ask them to register with VicFire on 1800 668 511 so that we can keep a track of what’s happening where”, Mayor Erwin said.

Residents can register at the Halls Gap newsagency to have their green waste collected from their properties. Only organic material will be collected and eligible for free disposal at the transfer station. Organisers ask that material put out for collection is stacked neatly to simplify the process.

Northern Grampians Shire’s General Manager Customer Service, Jim Nolan, said it was pleasing to see the partnership between Council, the CFA, Victoria Police and Parks Victoria continue this year to enable the event to run.

“The clean up weekend has been running for a few years now and has proved popular with the Halls Gap community”.

“We think the conclusion of Fire Action Week is the perfect time for this year’s clean up and we really hope that residents will take advantage of the services available over the weekend”, Mr. Nolan said.
