The Northern Grampians Shire has been successful in gaining four cadets under round two of the Victorian Government’s Rural Skills Cadetship Program 2009.
The program aims to assist industry and local government in regional Victoria meet short and long term skill needs and is funded through the Provincial Victoria Growth Fund.
Cadets are matched with a position relevant to their studies and are employed for a minimum of six weeks full time or 200 hours part time over a 12 month period.
During this time, cadets are able to develop practical skills in their field whilst also retaining their connections with rural Victoria and earning money to support their studies.
Councillor Ray Hewitt said Council was looking forward to welcoming young people back to the region.
“We’re very happy to see these cadets coming back to the region, bringing with them their newly acquired skills and knowledge”.
“It really is vital that we keep our youth in contact with their communities and this program goes a long way to doing that”, Cr. Hewitt said.
The Northern Grampians Shire Council will welcome three cadets. Matilda Douglas of Beazleys Bridge will work in Communications, Trent Fithall of St. Arnaud in Engineering and Adam Devereux, also of St. Arnaud, in Payroll.
Knight’s Accounting in St. Arnaud will welcome local Simone Martin to their business for the duration of the program.
All cadets will begin their positions in November 2009.
