The response to the Stawell Community Solar offer has wowed the Stawell Climate Action Group with 50 residents signing up to install solar electricity systems.
There has been some concern from participating households about the early rebate deadline sprung by the federal government two weeks ago. However the rebate applications of all 50 households were submitted to the government on time.
Cathy Donohue from Grampians-Wimmera Solar, the local business that put together the package, was exceptionally pleased with the response from residents and is looking forward to installing the systems.
“We expect installations to go ahead in 3, 2-week phases starting late July providing we receive the rebate approvals from the Government in a timely fashion. However, with the surge in rebate applications across Australia it’s possible the Government's processing of approvals may be delayed“.
In addition to the 50 households installing solar power panels, eight solar hot water units are being installed over the next two weeks. After an initial consideration some households decided to install both and some considered PV panels but decided to go with solar hot water instead. Cathy reminds people who missed out on the solar power offer that replacing your electric hot water system with a solar hot water unit may save even more electricity than a 1 kw solar panel system.
Emily Anderson from the Stawell Climate Action Group stresses
“The Federal Government’s announcement of the removal of the solar panel rebate doesn’t affect solar hot water incentives. These haven’t changed and are still available”.
“Government rebates can provide homeowners up to $2350 back on solar hot water systems so it’s a great time to look at this option for your household, especially if you are looking to save money on electricity in the long term”.
