Money is flying through local businesses as the St. Arnaud Shopping Shake Up reaches the half way point.
Almost half a million dollars of funny money has been printed and passed through the hands of retailers around the town.
General Manager Business Services at the Northern Grampians Shire Council, Justine Linley, said some retailers ran out of funny money in the first two days of the promotion.
“We launched on the Monday and by the Tuesday afternoon we had phone calls coming in from businesses saying they were almost out of funny money”.
“We had to do an extra, unplanned print run of notes just to keep up with the demand. It was a great problem to have though”, Ms. Linley said.
President of the St. Arnaud Community Action Network, Karen Russ, commented on the success of the promotion and said it was a great boost for businesses in these trying times.
“The Shopping Shake Up has been a really great way to add a bit of excitement to our local businesses and encourage people to shop local”.
“These events don’t happen by themselves though so we’re now on the lookout for interested business owners to join SCAN with the possibility of creating a retailers sub-branch”.
Ms. Russ said anyone interested in joining SCAN should contact her on 5495 2663 or 0408 031 646.
The focus will now be on the big prize draw on Friday July 3rd where Mayor Cr. Kevin Erwin will draw the winners of the $1000, $500 and $200 voucher prizes.
