Rural Councils Victoria (16-Nov-2009)
Mayor Kevin Erwin attended the Rural Councils Victoria Forum on October 30th to provide Northern Grampians Shire Council’s perspective on the most pressing needs for Victoria’s rural communities.

“A constant requirement of our municipality is striving towards maintaining and improving the liveability – meaning the services we provide, the infrastructure we maintain and the overall attractiveness of our environment.”

“It’s essential that we all accept that our future will be different – the climate, the economy, the population”.

“The State Government also recognises these challenges and all forum delegates received an update on what we can expect from the Brumby government from Jacinta Allan, Minister for Regional and Rural Development”.

“With limited budgets and the constant demands on our resources it’s hard to keep focused on this. More than ever having pride of place is key for the sustainability of towns in provincial Victoria”.
“At Friday’s forum we heard from marketing and brand experts on the tools and tactics for selling provincial Victoria and fostering pride of place and what happens in other regional areas around the world. We’ve come back invigorated and with a renewed focus on ensuring the long term viability of our rural towns,” Mayor Erwin concluded. ...read more.
