Maternal and Child Health

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) is a free service available to support families with children from birth to school age. Visits to your Maternal and Child Health Nurse focus on discussing topics to meet your families' needs.  Such topics include but are not limited to parenting, looking after yourself, health promotion and child safety information.  We aim to help you and your children achieve optimal health and development.

Consultations are via appointment only.

Our MCH Service

The hospital where you have your baby will contact our MCH team to pass on your contact details.

A member from our MCH team will contact you after you are discharged from hospital and book your first key age and stage visit (home visit).

There are ten key age and stage visits included in the MCH program:

Click on the link for each to discover more about what happens at the visit, what your baby is doing at each key age and stage, what to tell your nurse, and activity ideas.

My Health, Learning and Development Record

Following the birth of your baby, the hospital will provide you with a My Health, Learning and Development Record (green book).

At each appointment, you can record your child’s milestones, health, growth and development. Immunisations are also recorded in this book.  It is important to bring this book to each appointment.
